A/Prof Alexander Saxby

Dr. Saxby is a Consultant ENT Surgeon and Specialist Otologist treating both adults and children. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Sydney University and Head of Department for Otolaryngology at the Northern Beaches Hospital. He is also appointed at Royal Prince Alfred, North Shore Private and Pittwater Day Surgery Hospitals.

 

Training

Dr. Saxby graduated from Cambridge University Medical School, in the UK, where he gained first class honours. After moving to Australia in 2002 he completed his surgical training in New South Wales and became an ENT specialist in 2011. In 2012 he underwent further specialist training in advanced ear surgery at the prestigious Fisch Microsurgery Institute in Luzern, Switzerland and spent time at the Specialist Otology Hospital in Beziers, France before completing a Neurotology & Otology Fellowship in Vancouver, Canada at the BC Children’s Hospital and St Paul’s Hospital.

Endoscopic (minimally invasive) Keyhole Ear Surgery

​

Dr. Saxby was one of the first surgeons in Australia to incorporate the endoscopic approach to ear surgery in his practice. He is an active member of the International Working Group on Endoscopic Ear Surgery (IWGEES) promoting discussion and research into minimally invasive approaches to the ear. He co-founded the Sydney Endoscopic Ear Surgery Research Group (SEES) and co-directs their annual training courses, which receive international attendance. He has been an invited speaker and faculty at numerous International ear surgery courses and meetings including Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, Italy, Canada and USA.

Cochlear Implantation

Dr. Saxby is one of the surgeons at the Sydney Cochlear Implant Centre (SCIC), an RIDBC service, which is Australia’s largest and most comprehensive implantable hearing device programs. He is skilled at implantation of cochlear implants, bone anchored systems, middle ear implants and is involved with research into new devices and technologies in this field.
